Photo Session Information
(Prices subject to change without notice)
When you contact me, I will conduct a pre-session consultation by phone to get to know you and your pets and to determine what type of photos you’d like to do during the session (portrait with you and your pet, portrait of only your pet, action shots, etc). View samples of my pet portraits here. (Check back for more to be added soon.)
To help give back to the pet adoption community, I donate 10% of every session fee to the Kentucky Humane Society here in Louisville. To find out more about how I give back to the pet community, visit the Giving Back page.
The session includes one pet. There is a $25 fee for each additional pet from the same household. Multiple pets may take more time and I may enlist your help in getting your pets settled and ready for your session.
A deposit of half of the session cost is to be paid at time of booking to hold your specific date and time. The second half is due at time of the shoot. Cash, check and credit/debit cards are all accepted.
The session fee covers:
• Travel within 30 miles of zip code 40214. A travel fee of $.56 per mile applies to sessions outside of this area. This is the standard business mileage rate set by the IRS.
• The time necessary to photograph your pet (or you and your pet).
• The time to edit, color correct and perfect your photos. Black and white conversions are available at no extra charge.
• Uploading up to 50 of the best photos from your session to your private online gallery for your review and selection. A link to your private gallery will be sent to you via email.
• A sneak peek of several of your proofs on Alice Thompson Photography’s Facebook page.
• The session fee is for time and talent and does not include prints or digital files. Please see Pricing Packages below for more information.

Sessions are by appointment only. Once you have booked your session and your deposit has been received, I will email you a confirmation of the date and time, along with the necessary photography agreements to sign prior to our session.
Session fees are non-refundable. However, I understand that sometimes situations arise that require the need to reschedule a session. As long as you provide 24 hours’ notice, your session can be rescheduled and your deposit will carry over. Please note: a cancellation or rescheduling notice with less than 24 hours’ notice will result in the loss of your deposit.
All photography is done at your home, however I can also do your session outdoors if you prefer—wherever your pet is most comfortable. For indoor sessions, use of studio lighting may be required depending on the lighting in your home. If your pet is easily spooked by camera flashes or studio lights, please let me know in advance. Outdoor settings provide good natural lighting and scenery that can create wonderful portraits. Outdoor sessions are usually done mid-morning or mid-afternoon for the best outdoor lighting.
Working with Elderly or Terminally Ill Pets
For elderly or terminally ill pets, a quiet, safe environment like your home is suggested for this session. However, you know your pet best, so I trust your decision on outdoor settings where your pet may enjoy spending time. As with the other sessions, this session will last as long as it takes to get the shots you want. However, I want to be sensitive to the needs of your elderly or ill pet and realize they may not have the same attention span as other pets.
What to expect during the session
The first part of the photo session involves letting your pet get to know me before I begin setting up my equipment. I want to earn your pet’s trust so they will be comfortable and willing to let me photograph them in a stress-free environment. Because pets are unpredictable, your session will last as long as it takes to get the shots you want. However, if you are under a time constraint, please let me know prior to the session.
Proofs and Final Selections
Within 14 days of the completed photo session, I will send you access to a private online proofing gallery featuring up to 50 of the best photos from your session. All photos are digitally edited and color corrected. From this gallery you will be able to choose which photos you would like printed. I’m happy to answer any questions you may have during the print selection process. Feel free to contact me by phone or email.
After you’ve chosen your favorite photos, we will schedule an ordering session. This ordering session can be done over the phone or in person. (I’m always happy to meet for coffee somewhere!)
Your final prints will be delivered within 2-3 weeks. If you would like to re-order products any time in the future, you may refer back to your private gallery.
Tips and suggestions
Please feel free to have your pet’s favorite toys or treats at the session to help them feel more secure. I always have treats available if needed. Please let me know in advance if your pet has any dietary restrictions or food allergies.
It is up to you whether or not you would like to be in any of the photos with your pet. If you do choose to be in some of the photos, I would suggest wearing something that is a solid color and compliments the color of your pet(s). Sometimes patterns, stripes or large jewelry can be a little distracting in a photo. If you have any questions prior to the session, I’m happy to offer suggestions.
If we will be shooting in your home, please be mindful of areas with good window lighting and declutter those areas if necessary.
If your pet needs to remain on a leash during the session, please use a retractable leash if possible. This can be easily removed during the editing process before your final photos are completed.
Please contact me with any questions. I look forward to meeting you and your pet!
